Tending Our Fire

Tending the story is a privilege bestowed on Storycatchers by their willingness to receive, report, and protect the world's stories. Storycatchers become the librarians, taking care of the stories that are already there, adding stories to the shelves, and ensuring that the stories remain available for the future.

What is the story you're tending, the one you'll never let be put out?
Readers' Responses:

"The story of the coming of my Italian family to America is one that I'll never let be put out. The hardships and prejudice they faced at the turn of the century bring tears to my eyes; their courage in persevering here, contributing to the building of this nation and continuing my lineage on these shores, is one I will not risk losing. They worked too hard and sacrificed too much."

"I distinctly remember touring the remnants of her home following the tragic fire that winter, and seeing the singed pieces of childhood staring lonely back at me. When she chose to move out and grow up, I received her few surviving toys and gave them a second chance- that portable pink sewing machine, the celery green doll seat. Although personally our correspondence stopped, our mother’s proudly shared stories of the other. I remember hearing that she was the first in her family to receive a college degree, of her endless and seemingly unfair stories of personal survival and saving others’ lives as an EMT. The day of her tragic death, that young woman transformed into an angel, never knowing of her long awaited and anticipated med. school acceptance. She was my hero, and cultivated a worthy and inspirational tale to never be forgotten; this, my story to pass along. "
