Christina, I hope your words go to him - after all, he won the battle to keep his blackberry! but you are right...his down-hominess is concrete and unexpected action in the real places of power; i.e, the gardens and the factories and the little backyard plots of homes and that means exactly what you are calling him to. "Feeding the Lions" is a great phrase for the corporate greed swallowing up yet more of the country's assets...yet, I also believe that Obama's patience with them is limited and that he will change in mid-stream if this doesn't work. Still, may your wise words reach him.

We too here in the near north of Ontario, Canada, are watching the tips of growth emerge from a ground still with its patches of snow. Even the garlic appeared yesterday, when I look closely at the hay under which it's been sleeping all winter. I am eagerly planning now - we can't plant until the first full moon after the May 24th weekend, and even then we'll have a frost or two in June. This year I will experiment with "Lasagna Gardening" - layered beds which will grow almost anything, anywhere (worth a google) - in the kitchen garden in our courtyard. I will try potatoes there. Tomatoes and basil in the greenhouse, and lettuces/mesclun mix, squashes and zucchini in the proper garden. And some adventure...who know? Your beds look divine, which they are!

I spent my first 7 years on Whidbey. We had an enormous veggie plot, raised banties and had miscellaneous livestock. And we lived on Edgecliff Drive...This is the resurrection I believe in. Thank you for being our voice to the president, you say so boldly and exactly what needs to be said. I say you have been practicing your whole life to be able to write and stand for the power of your words. I appreciate that.
